Open-Air Musical "Anatevka" by Theater Trier with Musical, Dance, and Acting Ensembles plus Orchestra
Theater Trier is the multi-genre city theater of Trier, featuring drama, musicals, dance, and its own Philharmonic Orchestra. The open-air summer production was established a few years ago as an additional seasonal format and uses the Augustinerhof as its open-air stage. The Augustinerhof, a historic courtyard in Trier-Mitte, offers an intimate atmosphere with approximately 400 to 600 seats, depending on the stage configuration.
The choice of "Anatevka" (English "Fiddler on the Roof", originally Russian-Yiddish by Joseph Stein, Jerry Bock, and Sheldon Harnick, premiered in 1964) for 2026 is programmatically significant. The work tells the story of the Jewish milkman Tevye and his five daughters in a Ukrainian shtetl around 1905, addressing themes such as tradition, family, migration, antisemitism, and social change — all set to iconic music. The Trier production brings the entire ensemble to the stage: musical soloists, the dance ensemble, actors, and the Philharmonic Orchestra of Trier.
Advance ticket sales for the 2025/26 season began on December 1, 2025. For open-air performances, a seat in the main hall is reserved simultaneously, which can be used at no extra cost in case of rain.
The 2026 summer production is one of Theater Trier's most ambitious open-air projects in recent years. "Anatevka" requires a large ensemble, a strong musical cast, and a well-developed dance and choreography concept. The staging is overseen by Trier's theater management and tailored for the open-air stage in the Augustinerhof.
