Focused tasting of Ruwer Valley Riesling terroirs on June 19, 2026 in Kasel
The Ruwer Valley is one of Germany's narrowest yet most diverse wine sub-regions. Over a few kilometers, slate soils in numerous nuances alternate, coupled with different slope aspects, altitudes, and microclimates. The Terroir Wine Tasting Ruwer is the format in which Ruwer-Riesling e.V. makes this diversity visible and tangible — not a colorful wine show, but a focused site tasting.
The venue for 2026 is the courtyard of Weinmanufaktur Kasel, one of the central players in the Ruwer Valley. The estate offers the quiet, focused atmosphere that this format requires: no stages, no live music, but tasting tables where participants can experience the wines step by step.
The tasting presents a curated selection from the most important Ruwer Valley sites — Waldracher Hubertusberg, Kaseler Nies'chen, Kaseler Kehrnagel, Mertesdorfer Herrenberg, Eitelsbacher Karthäuserhofberg, and others. Sorted by terroir character, the wines allow for a direct comparison between slate soils, slope aspects, and styles. The tasting is accompanied by commentary — geology, climate, harvest, and winemaking are integrated into the tasting.
The Terroir Tasting is aimed at wine connoisseurs, trade professionals, sommeliers, and ambitious hobby tasters. It is not a format for the casual wine enthusiast — those who attend should have basic knowledge of Mosel Riesling and an interest in site styles. Those who do will experience one of the most compact and exciting Riesling tastings in the German wine landscape.
The 2026 tasting will be coordinated by Ruwer-Riesling e.V. and is aimed at an audience with a professional interest. Unlike a wine exchange, the focus is on site styles, not individual producers.
Registration, tasting fee, and the selection of participating sites will be communicated via the association's event page.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in spring/summer. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
