64th Edition – 10 Days of Volksfest on the Hilpolding Festival Meadow
The Taufkirchener Volksfest is one of the most traditional folk festivals in the Erding district. It has been held on the Hilpolding festival meadow on the outskirts of Taufkirchen (Vils) since the early 1960s. In 2026, the festival will celebrate its 64th edition – a festival calendar that makes the market town a regional meeting point for ten days every mid-July.
The centerpiece is the large festival tent operated by Müller's Events. Each festival night has its own musical program – from the Schlager night on the eve (Eva Luginger, July 9th) to classic festival tent bands (Tetrapack, Heldensteiner Heubodnblosn, Renate Maier, I-Düpferl) to dance bands like Ledawix, Ois Easy, Jive, and Dirndlalarm. Table reservations directly with the festival host at 0170 4159453.
Over the years, the Taufkirchener Volksfest has developed its own distinctive festival structure that clearly sets it apart from average folk festivals:
Taufkirchen (Vils) is a market town with around 9,500 inhabitants in the Erding district, east of Munich Airport. The town is located in the Vilstal valley and is an economically strong small community with trade, crafts, and a lively club structure – a prerequisite for a folk festival of this magnitude. The Volksfest is a fixed part of the annual calendar and is planned well in advance (secured until 2028).
The 2026 Volksfest follows the established 64-year tradition with ten main festival days plus the Schlager night eve. Each day has its own program highlight – the festival tent program alternates daily between Schlager acts, festival tent bands, dance bands, and traditional folk music.
The first festival Saturday with the traditional Volksfest Procession (around 40 clubs marching from the market square to the festival meadow), the Schafkopf Championship on the first Sunday (27th edition, one of the most important Schafkopf tournaments in eastern Upper Bavaria), and the Vintage Car/Vespa Meet are the identity markers of the festival.
As with a classic Bavarian Volksfest, there are two family afternoons with discounted prices from showmen, a senior afternoon with a local culture evening, and a Dirndl/Lederhosen meet with "party alarm".
