Civic festival, city tours, and exhibitions under the motto "Living Places, Strong Communities"
The nationwide Day of Urban Development Funding makes visible once a year how federal, state, and local governments transform urban districts with funding programs. Brandenburg an der Havel — one of the oldest cities in the state of Brandenburg — has been one of the most active participating cities for years. On Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 10:30 AM to 3:00 PM, the city will open districts, exhibitions, and construction sites to the public under the motto "Living Places, Strong Communities".
The city has put together a dense program: Four free guided tours will lead through the old town and showcase construction projects that have been realized or are being further developed with urban development funding. At 10:30 AM, a tour starts at the Bollmannbrunnen; at 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM, the doors open for the Burghof am Dom; at 12:00 PM, the district tour Klosterquartier Paulikloster begins; at 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM, a construction tour will lead through the renovated residential buildings at Molkenmarkt 26/28. Registration for the Dom tours is recommended.
In parallel, the Fouqué Library will host the exhibition "Discover Urban Development" from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, which clearly presents the most important funding programs — urban redevelopment, Social City, Active City and Town Centers. At 2:00 PM, a climate walk will take place at Molkenmarkt: Urban planners will show how the city center redevelopment also addresses climate change — with sponge city concepts, unsealing, and new urban greening.
With around 73,000 inhabitants, Brandenburg an der Havel is an independent city in the state of Brandenburg. Since reunification, the city has undergone an impressive renovation process — from the revitalization of the Neustadt-Altstadt and the upgrading of the prefabricated housing estates in Hohenstücken to recent projects such as the Klosterquartier at the Paulikloster. The Day of Urban Development Funding makes this transformation accessible to a broad audience.
The day is initiated by the federal and state governments in cooperation with the German Association of Cities, the Association of German Towns and Municipalities, and the Association of German Districts. Over 700 cities and municipalities across Germany participate annually. Brandenburg an der Havel is one of the traditional participating cities from the state of Brandenburg.
The city administration will open four central districts for guided tours, present the exhibition "Discover Urban Development" in the Fouqué Library, and conclude with a climate walk. All offerings are free of charge and are aimed at citizens as well as professional audiences.
The tours are led by urban planners and district management and offer insights into ongoing construction and renovation projects. Follow-up discussions are possible.
All tours are free. Detailed program and registration via the city of Brandenburg an der Havel.
