Garden Party at the Kleist Museum with Jazz and Literature
Frankfurt (Oder) – the Brandenburg university city on the Polish border – is the birthplace of Heinrich von Kleist. The Kleist Museum on Faberstraße is the central research and education institution dedicated to the life and work of the great poet and is one of the most important literary studies institutions in Germany. With its collections, temporary exhibitions, and a dense program of events, it has been an anchor of cultural life in Frankfurt (Oder) and eastern Brandenburg for decades.
The Summer Festival is the most convivial event in the museum's annual calendar. In the garden behind the building, which opens onto Faberstraße, the team sets up a small stage, lays tables under the trees, and invites the public for an afternoon of music, encounters, and information. The festival is organized by the Kleist Museum together with the Friends of the Kleist Museum Association (Förderkreis Kleist-Museum e.V.).
In 2026, the PROKOPÄTZ Jazz Orchestra, led by Hannes Zerbe, will perform – a tribute to the versatility of contemporary jazz formats. The musical part will be complemented by guided tours of the current exhibition, discussions about new acquisitions, and a preview of the Kleist Anniversary in 2027. The Friends of the Kleist Museum Association will provide information on ongoing and upcoming projects.
Like many of the museum's events, the Summer Festival is freely accessible; donations for the museum and the Friends Association are gratefully accepted. Refreshments with cake, grilled items, and drinks are organized by the Friends Association and volunteers.
