Four concerts with award-winning young ensembles in the Orangerie Herrenhausen
The festival is compactly designed: a total of four concerts will take place on one Saturday and one Sunday – Saturdays at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., Sundays at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Each concert will be performed by a different ensemble, giving the audience a comprehensive insight into the Hannover chamber music scene within two days.
The participating ensembles are selected by the association Kammermusik Hannover. The criteria are awards from national or international chamber music competitions and a connection to the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover, one of Germany's most renowned music academies. The ensembles typically consist of students in their final years of study or young professional musicians in the early stages of their careers.
The Orangerie is located in the southern part of the Great Garden and is part of the Herrenhausen Gardens ensemble. The light-filled hall with large windows overlooking the park offers ideal acoustics for chamber music and provides a historic setting that underscores the intimate character of the music.
The festival complements the musical performances with discussions with the artists, offering the audience insights into the preparation of the programs and the daily lives of young ensembles. A guided garden tour through the Great Garden and a panel discussion on the state of chamber music round off the weekend.
The musical programs of the individual ensembles will be published by the organizer in the spring of 2026. It is expected that the programs will feature a combination of classical-romantic standard repertoire and works from the 20th or 21st century – the typical programming policy of young ensembles aiming to both preserve tradition and develop their own profile.
The atmosphere of the Orangerie and the direct contact between stage and audience create a concert setting that clearly differs from the more anonymous large hall experience.
The exact concert repertoire for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the spring. Based on experience, it will include works from the classical, romantic, and modern periods, as well as commissioned works or premieres.
