DIY Hardcore Punk Festival in the Wirges Skatepark with 15 Bands from the International Underground Scene
In just a few years, the Subwood Festival in Wirges has become a firm meeting point for the DIY hardcore and punk scene in the Westerwald region. In the extraordinary setting of the Wirges Skatepark, it brings together a selection of international underground bands every summer.
In 2026, the festival will run from July 17th to 18th, featuring 15 bands over two days. Camping is free, and the grounds offer food trucks, a bar, and tattoo and piercing stalls. The festival stands for a real, unvarnished concert experience that brings the best of the DIY movement's spirit to the Westerwald.
The Subwood Festival consistently sees itself as a DIY (Do It Yourself) event. Organized by a small crew of activists from the local punk and hardcore scene, the festival foregoes major sponsors and commercial structures. Instead, community, fair conditions for the bands, and an honest atmosphere are prioritized.
The Wirges Skatepark in 56422 Wirges offers an unusual and atmospheric setting. The connection between urban subculture (skateboarding) and hardcore/punk perfectly matches the festival's aesthetic. The grounds are completely transformed into a festival venue for two days—with a stage, camping, food trucks, and a bar.
The 2026 lineup brings together 15 bands from the national and international hardcore, punk, and alternative underground scene. On Friday, July 17th, starting at 6:00 PM, Deluminate, Bury The Liar, Left Betrayed, Kalt, Monashee, and Artemis Rising will perform, followed by a karaoke aftershow. On Saturday, July 18th, starting at 2:40 PM, Anguish, Karnage, Unhinged, Palebloom, XO-ARMOR, Farewell Spit, Bloodspot, Karabooza, and KNG will take the stage.
The festival grounds offer everything needed for a relaxed festival experience: a bar with fair prices, several food trucks with options for different dietary needs, tattoo and piercing stalls, and free camping right on the grounds. This creates a particularly dense festival atmosphere where bands and the audience meet on equal footing.
With the Subwood Festival, the Westerwald's hardcore punk scene has gained an annual fixture. Visitors come from all over the Rhineland, Hesse, and even further afield. Tickets are sold via Eventfrog.
