Germany's Largest Regional Book Exhibition
The Stuttgart Book Weeks are Germany's largest regional book fair. Unlike the Frankfurt Book Fair, which primarily brings together publishers and rights agents as a trade fair, the Stuttgart Book Weeks are aimed directly at the public: for three weeks, readers can browse current publisher programs, attend readings, talk with authors, and find inspiration for the pre-Christmas gift season.
Haus der Wirtschaft as the Venue
The venue is the Haus der Wirtschaft at Willi-Bleicher-Straße 19 in Stuttgart-Mitte. This historic building from the late 19th century, with its distinctive facade tower, offers around 6,000 square meters of exhibition space across several floors. During the Book Weeks, the halls are divided into thematic exhibition areas: fiction, non-fiction, children's and young adult books, comics/graphic novels, travel literature, audiobooks, school books, and more.
76th Edition in 2026
The 2026 edition marks the 76th since the first Stuttgart Book Week in 1951 — founded in the post-war era when reading and the rebuilt book market represented an important cultural new beginning. This makes the Book Weeks one of Germany's oldest book fairs and deeply rooted in Baden-Württemberg's cultural calendar.
150 Publishers, 25,000 Books
Around 150 German-language publishers present their programs — from major public publishers (Suhrkamp, Hanser, S. Fischer, Diogenes, Random House) to medium-sized publishers and small independent publishers from Baden-Württemberg and Southern Germany. A total of approximately 25,000 different titles are available for browsing and purchasing.
Over 110,000 Visitors
The Book Weeks attract an average of 110,000 visitors over the three weeks they run. They come from Stuttgart, the entire state, and beyond — families, bookworms, teachers with school classes, students, seniors. The Book Weeks are not a trade fair, but a public festival.
Readings, Workshops, Panels
The accompanying program is extensive: readings with authors, discussions on current literary and social topics, writing workshops, special presentations, events for school classes with free school readings. Renowned and new voices alternate. Ticket sales for readings begin on September 15, 2026, at 3:00 PM via weeztix and Reservix.
Pre-Christmas Highlight
The Book Weeks take place before Christmas, thus fulfilling a special function: they are not only a book culture festival but also a practical source of inspiration for the gift-giving season. Many visitors take advantage of the free admission to the book exhibition to buy gifts for family and friends.
