About Street Food Greetsiel

Every September, the Street Food Festival Greetsiel brings the culinary diversity of the international street food scene to the Greetsiel harbour. Against the maritime backdrop of thatched-roof houses, shrimp cutters, and the famous twin mill silhouette, around two dozen food trucks and street food vendors from Northern Germany, the Netherlands, and Belgium gather. Burgers from premium German breeds, Asian bao buns, Mexican tacos, Dutch bitterballen, Lebanese wraps, vegan bowls, and sweet specialities like Dutch poffertjes or Belgian waffles are served side-by-side. Live music, cocktail bars, and the late summer harbour flair make the weekend one of the most enjoyable family events of the East Frisian late season.

Street food meets East Frisian hospitality

Within just a few years, the Street Food Festival Greetsiel has become a firm fixture in the Krummhörn's late summer calendar. The event combines the growing popularity of the international street food scene with the unique atmosphere of the Greetsiel harbour. Instead of sterile festival grounds in car parks or exhibition centres, the festival takes place here amidst a vibrant, historic fishing village, lending it a charm that comparable events in cities cannot achieve.

A culinary world tour in a small space

The focus of the festival is on culinary diversity. The organisers specifically invite vendors who practice their craft at a high level while also bringing originality. Typically represented are:

  • Burger specialists – from classic beef burgers to pulled pork and vegetarian options
  • Asian cuisine – bao buns, Banh Mi, Pad Thai, sushi rolls
  • Latin American cuisine – tacos, burritos, empanadas
  • Mediterranean classics – wood-fired pizza, pasta, antipasti, bruschetta
  • Vegan and vegetarian options – bowls, falafel, vegan burgers, curries
  • Sweets – Dutch poffertjes, Belgian waffles, donuts, crêpes, ice cream
  • Regional – of course, the obligatory shrimp rolls straight from Greetsiel harbour

Drinks and atmosphere

To accompany the food trucks, several bar stands offer cocktails, craft beers, wines, and non-alcoholic specialities. A small stage provides musical accompaniment – usually acoustic singer-songwriter sets or small bands that don't disturb the relaxed festival atmosphere but enhance it. Tables and benches are generously distributed; many visitors simply sit on the quay edge and enjoy their food with a view of the harbour basin.

A stylish family festival

The festival is explicitly aimed at all age groups. Families with children will find a diverse offering – no child has to settle for fries or pizza; if they want, they can try a chicken bao, a vegan bowl, or a poffertje with vanilla sauce. Allergy sufferers are also increasingly catered for: gluten-free, lactose-free, and vegan options are signposted at most trucks.

Street Food Greetsiel — edition 2026

The Street Food Festival Greetsiel will take place in 2026 from Friday, September 11th to Sunday, September 13th at Greetsiel harbour. Around two dozen food trucks and street food vendors from Germany, the Netherlands, and Belgium will present their specialities. Live music on a small harbour stage, several bar stands, and a child-friendly accompanying programme will round off the weekend. Admission is free, the festival remains family-friendly and manageable. The exact list of vendors will be published on the website of Tourismus GmbH Krummhörn-Greetsiel shortly before the festival.

The 2026 festival continues the successful concept. The organisers curate the vendor selection with a focus on culinary diversity – duplications are largely avoided, and new trucks complement the regular roster from previous years.
