Two-day street theatre festival as part of the Kultursommer Rheinland-Pfalz
The Kultursommer Rheinland-Pfalz is a series of cultural events established by the state in 1992, which annually promotes events nationwide from May to October with a programmatic annual theme. Each year, the Kultursommer is dedicated to a different theme — in 2026, it is "The Golden Twenties". Festivals, concerts, exhibitions, theatre performances, and street art are organized within this framework.
The Zweibrücken street theatre spectacle is one of the city's most prominent contributions to the Kultursommer. In the format of an open, free festival in the city centre, it brings international and regional street artists to Zweibrücken. Theatre, dance, music, walking acts, and performance characterise the pedestrian zone on both days.
The annual theme for 2026 inspires staging, costumes, and musical accents. With reference to Charleston, Art Deco, Cabaret, and the spirit of the 1920s, walking acts, costume performances, and musical contributions are created that bring the theme to life. Eddy Danco with his guitar and the Stadtkapelle Zweibrücken — Sunday 11:15 am and 1:15 pm — are among the planned participants.
Saturday, May 9th, 2026, the programme runs from 10 am to 9 pm — a long, festive festival day that lasts into the evening. Sunday, May 10th, the festival concludes with performances between 11 am and 6 pm. The performances take place in various squares and streets of the city centre — audience and artists meet at eye level in a relaxed, early summer atmosphere.
The 2026 Straßentheater-Spektakel sets a clear thematic focus. With "The Golden Twenties" as a unifying theme, walking acts and performances are created that transform Zweibrücken's city centre into a vibrant homage to the decade.
Performances take place at various points in the city centre — Schlossplatz, Hauptstraße, Alexanderplatz, and the pedestrian zone.
The exact 2026 programme will be published by the City of Zweibrücken and the Kultursommer. The structure follows the proven benchmarks of previous years:
