Acrobatics, music, and arts and crafts on Karl-Lederer-Platz
The StraßenKUNSTfestival was launched in 2022 by the City of Geretsried and has since developed into one of the region's most prominent cultural events. It is organized by the municipal department of Culture & Archives. Within a few years, a premiere became a firm October tradition.
The center of the action is Karl-Lederer-Platz in the heart of Geretsried, one of the largest towns in the district of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen in the state of Bavaria. The square and the surrounding city center become an open stage for two days, combining street art, market, and encounters.
The program features international and regional street artists: acrobatics and aerial arts, juggling and fire shows, music from local ensembles and bands, magic, comedy, and breakdance. An artists' and crafts market, an extensive children's program with a carousel, face painting, and balloon animals, as well as workshops – such as circus, drumming, or graffiti – complete the offering.
Admission is free; the hat principle applies: what you like can and should be supported. This form of voluntary remuneration is typical for street art and creates a direct connection between the audience and the artists.
With Sunday shopping and gastronomic offerings, the festival combines art, commerce, and community. It exemplifies the vibrant cultural work of smaller towns in the Bavarian pre-Alps and has become an identity-defining event for Geretsried.
The 2026 edition will take over the city center around Karl-Lederer-Platz on the weekend of October 10 and 11. Street art, live music, an artists' and crafts market, a children's program, and hands-on workshops will be offered. On Sunday, shops will be open (12:00 PM–5:00 PM). Admission is free; the hat principle applies.
Geretsried is located south of Munich and is accessible via the B11 federal highway and by S-Bahn (S7 to Wolfratshausen, then bus). Karl-Lederer-Platz is centrally located; parking is available in the city center.
Admission is free. The hat principle applies – artists are compensated through voluntary donations.
Dedicated children's program with a carousel, face painting, and balloon animals, plus hands-on workshops; Sunday shopping hours (12:00 PM–5:00 PM).
