STADTRADELN Speyer 2026 from May 30 to June 19 — 21-day international climate protection campaign, teams collect kilometers for more cycling in the cathedral city
STADTRADELN is a campaign by Klima-Bündnis, an alliance of European cities committed to local climate protection. The campaign runs annually in more than 2,000 municipalities worldwide, from Berlin and Munich to smaller communities in Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain, and other countries. The concept is simple: for 21 consecutive days, participants record all kilometers they travel by bicycle — whether commuting to work, school, shopping, or during leisure time.
Speyer is participating from May 30 to June 19, 2026. The city of Speyer is the official local organizer of the campaign, coordinating registrations, evaluations, and accompanying activities. In 2025, 1,461 people participated and covered 268,716 kilometers — the 2026 edition aims to surpass these figures if possible.
Participants register in teams. Teams can be formed freely: companies, associations, schools, churches, sports and leisure clubs, or simply groups of friends and family. Each individual participant enters their kilometers cycled into an app or on the website, and the team total is automatically calculated. At the end of the 21 days, evaluations will be published — usually with awards for the teams with the most kilometers, the teams with the most participants, and school teams.
The political goal of the campaign is the concrete reduction of CO2 emissions. Every kilometer cycled instead of driven by car saves approximately 100–150 grams of CO2. For 268,716 kilometers, this equates to about 35 tons of CO2 — a considerable amount for a three-week campaign in a medium-sized city. At the same time, STADTRADELN strengthens cycling culture and provides arguments for urban cycling policy and infrastructure investments.
During the three-week campaign period, local stakeholders organize accompanying activities — guided bike tours in the Speyer region, consultations on bicycle technology, safety training, and workshop offers. The Pfälzerwald-Verein Speyer regularly participates with tour offerings.
The Speyer edition in 2026 takes place in the classic timeframe of late May to mid-June. Accompanying guided bike tours in the Speyer region are organized by local clubs such as the Pfälzerwald-Verein Speyer.
The detailed program of accompanying activities (tours, consultations) will be published by the organizer in May.
