53rd edition of the large Burgdorf city festival with five stages, large flea market, and asparagus run
The Oktobermarkt in Burgdorf is more than a city festival — it's a piece of city history. With its 53rd edition in 2026, it is one of the oldest city festivals in the eastern Hannover region. The organizer is VVV Burgdorf, which has continuously developed the format over the decades, offering a vibrant example of active urban revitalization through volunteer engagement. The Oktobermarkt marks the autumnal highlight in Burgdorf's calendar — an opportunity to experience the city center in full vibrancy.
The festival concept focuses on diversity. Concerts, theater performances, dance shows, comedy programs, and interactive acts are spread across five stages. Live music of all genres — from regional cover band culture and singer-songwriters to brass bands and choirs — ensures broad musical variety. Activity areas complement the stage program: sports demonstrations, interactive club stands, children's activities, artistic performances, and culinary highlights.
Two program points stand out particularly. The large flea market on Sunday, primarily unfolding around Schmiedestraße, regularly attracts thousands of bargain hunters and browsers. Private individuals, clubs, and commercial vendors share the stalls — a lively piece of consumer and recycling culture right in the heart of the city. The Burgdorf Asparagus Run, also on Sunday (October 4th), enters its 14th edition in 2026. It leads runners of all skill levels through Burgdorf's city center and serves as a sporting companion to the city festival.
A special element is the Burgdorf Bonus voucher book, distributed during the Oktobermarkt. It involves local retailers, making the city festival an economic event that benefits downtown businesses. Overall, VVV Burgdorf creates a synergy of festival culture and economic promotion, elevating the city festival far beyond a mere entertainment event — it is an annual city event that makes Burgdorf's city center visible anew each year.
From October 2nd to 4th, 2026, VVV Burgdorf will once again transform the city center into a festival mile with five stages. Highlights include the large flea market and the 14th Asparagus Run on Sunday. The city festival is a total work of art comprising music, theater, sports, culinary delights, and urban revitalization.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by VVV Burgdorf in late summer. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
