60 Years of Baunatal — From Factory Village to City
Baunatal was granted city rights on July 1st, 1966. Formed from several villages and a VW factory village, it became a new city in the south of the Kassel district – and in 60 years, it has developed into a modern, vibrant, economically strong city with around 28,000 inhabitants. The entire festival year 2026 is under the motto «Baunatal 60», with the Stadtfest at the beginning of July being the highlight.
Kick-off on July 1st — City Birthday
The festival year officially begins on Wednesday, July 1st, 2026, with concerts by the Heeresmusikkorps Kassel. It is a civic celebration on the exact birthday date.
Four Days of Stadtfest on the Marktplatz
From Thursday, July 2nd, to Sunday, July 5th, Baunatal's Marktplatz will be transformed into the festival grounds. Three stages – the main stage, the Klimperkasten-Bühne (powered by Raiffeisenbank), and the [34225]-Bühne (powered by Glinicke) – will cater to all generations.
Saturday Highlight: 60th Birthday Party
On Saturday evening, July 4th, the big anniversary party will take place with the North Hessian cult band Reiner Irrsinn – a show that the Baunatal audience knows: party charts, Schlager, and Neue Deutsche Welle. A city in birthday dancing mode.
Amusement Rides with Ferris Wheel and 40m Chain Carousel
XL showmen are bringing their attractions: a 40-meter chain carousel, a Ferris wheel, dodgems, and smaller family rides. Thursday is Family Day with reduced prices for the amusement rides.
Stadtfest Baunatal — edition 2026
The festival year opens on July 1st with the Heeresmusikkorps Kassel. From July 2nd to 5th, the actual Stadtfest takes place on the Marktplatz, featuring a main stage, two sponsor stages, and a large amusement ride area.

Getting There
Take the RegioTram RT3 from Kassel-Hauptbahnhof to Baunatal-Mitte. By car, take the A44/A49, then the city center exit. Parking is available on the outskirts of the city.
Admission
Festival grounds are free. Amusement rides and food are extra. Concerts on all three stages are free.
Tip
Thursday = Family Day with special prices for amusement rides. If you want to try the 40m chain carousel, it's best to come on a weekday; queues are longer on weekends.
