Biannual art project as part of the Rhineland-Palatinate Summer of Culture in Lahnstein and its surroundings
The Rhineland-Palatinate Summer of Culture is one of the state's most significant cultural funding programs. Each year, it is dedicated to a guiding theme – in 2026, it is "The Golden Twenties", referencing the years of upheaval after World War I, their cultural diversity, but also their shadows and fractures.
The Stadt.Land.Kunst. project is one of the Summer of Culture's ambitious funding formats. It aims to artistically question the separation between urban space and rural surroundings and to bring both spheres into dialogue.
In Lahnstein, Stadt.Land.Kunst. 2026 will unfold throughout the entire half-year from May 1st to October 4th. The initiative rost und rosa (rostundrosa.art) is the organizer, having already garnered attention with its previous projects on the Rhine and Middle Rhine.
The format includes interventions in public spaces – installations at prominent city and landscape locations – performances, workshops, and encounter formats with the local population. The connection between Lahnstein as an urban center and the surrounding vineyards, forests, and valleys creates a specific resonance space for the artists to work in.
With its nearly half-year duration, Stadt.Land.Kunst. offers a flexible visiting structure: a one-time day trip for the opening, repeated visits to selected locations, or an in-depth engagement with the overall project – everything is possible.
The six-month duration allows for an in-depth engagement with the project. Stadt.Land.Kunst. Lahnstein utilizes the diverse spatial qualities of the city and its surroundings for a multi-voiced artistic exploration.
The exact 2026 program will be continuously published by the organizer. The structure follows the established key points:
