Ten-day festival for solidarity futures in the Westerwald and Windeck along the Sieg river with art, workshops, hikes, and encounters
The Stadt-Land-Fluss-Festival consciously positions itself as a 'Festival for Solidarity Futures,' addressing current societal discussions on sustainability, solidarity, rural community, and alternative lifestyles. Unlike commercial festivals, the festival focuses less on stage shows and more on collective experience and engagement with future issues.
The festival spans ten days from Friday, May 22nd, to Sunday, May 31st, 2026. The event locations are spread across the Westerwald and the neighboring Windeck (Rhein-Sieg district, North Rhine-Westphalia) along the Sieg river. This geographical distribution across federal state borders underscores regional connection beyond administrative boundaries.
A special feature of the festival is the choice of venues: private gardens opened for the festival, workshops in studios and workshops, forests and meadows as natural backdrops, and village squares as central meeting points. This distribution creates an intimate, personal atmosphere and leads visitors to places they might not otherwise discover.
The program includes art exhibitions in private and public spaces, herb walks with knowledgeable guides, sweat lodges as an experience of indigenous purification rituals, secret raves as surprising dance formats in unusual locations, as well as workshops, discussion rounds, readings, and musical contributions. This diversity of formats appeals to an open, curious audience willing to engage in unfamiliar experiences.
The organizer is the Wir-Dorf-Initiative, a civil society movement committed to solidarity-based, sustainable, and community-oriented lifestyles in rural areas. The complete festival program and registration for individual events can be viewed on the website wir-dorf.de.
The festival follows an open, decentralized structure:
Opening of the ten-day festival at a central location in the Westerwald or Windeck. Welcome by the Wir-Dorf-Initiative, presentation of the program and venues, initial musical and artistic contributions.
Art exhibitions will be presented at various locations — from established artists to emerging voices. The spaces range from galleries to barns and studios, and even private living rooms opened for the festival.
Herb walks with knowledgeable guides lead through the forests and meadows along the Sieg river. Participants learn about local medicinal herbs, edible wild plants, and the landscape. Accompanying workshops deepen the knowledge.
Sweat lodges — temporary structures based on indigenous models — offer experiences of physical and spiritual purification. Guided by experienced facilitators, these formats are an intense encounter with non-Western forms of spirituality.
Secret raves in surprising locations — in forests, meadows, barns — offer dance experiences away from commercial club culture. Location information is often announced shortly before the event via festival channels.
Workshops on topics such as sustainable agriculture, community building, alternative energy sources, permaculture, and solidarity economy. Discussion rounds on the future of rural areas.
Closing event with a review of the ten festival days, a communal meal, and a final musical or artistic performance. Farewell to participants.
