Traditional parish fair on the Leutesdorf Rhine meadow in honor of Saint Lawrence on the 2nd weekend of August
The parish of St. Lawrence has shaped the religious and social life of Leutesdorf for centuries. Saint Lawrence — one of the most famous early Christian martyrs — is celebrated on August 10th. The parish fair is traditionally held around this date on the 2nd weekend of August. A tradition that is maintained in many parish communities of the Middle Rhine and Rhineland-Palatinate with wine and pilgrimage traditions.
The organizer and patron of the Kirmes is the Katholischer Junggesellenverein 1857 Leutesdorf e.V. — a historical customs association that has been shaping the Kirmes events in Leutesdorf since 1857. Young men (increasingly also young women and older members) organize the keg tapping, tent setup, security, festival planning, and the program. This volunteer organization gives the Kirmes its personal, village character.
The venue is the Leutesdorf Rhine meadow — an area directly on the river with a view of the left bank of the Rhine. The festival tent, showmen with rides, food stalls, beer stands, and a stage are set up here. The location on the water creates a special summer atmosphere that clearly distinguishes the Kirmes from city center events.
Classic program: Rock, pop, and cover bands on Friday and Saturday evenings; brass band music during Sunday's morning pint after the festive church service; carousels, swing boats, children's rides; a variety of food from suckling pig to bratwurst. The parish service and procession integrate the religious roots of the Kirmes.
The 2026 edition follows the long-standing tradition: keg tapping on Friday, Kirmes evenings on Friday and Saturday, festive church service and morning pint on Sunday, and the Kirmes winding down on Monday. The exact program will be published by the Junggesellenverein in the summer.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the summer of 2026. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
