Open-air cultural festival with artistry, live painting, and live music in Großenkneten's Bürgerpark
SpielART follows the tradition of regional cultural festivals aiming to showcase cultural diversity in rural areas. In Großenkneten's Bürgerpark, artistry, music, and visual arts merge from the afternoon onwards, creating a relaxed open-air atmosphere. The name "op de Geest" refers to its geographical location within the Wildeshauser Geest Nature Park and the Low German speaking region.
The program features a balanced mix of contemporary artistry – such as the Chinese mast and trapeze – musical juggling, live painting on large canvases, dance formats like line dancing, and a family circus for children. Artistic acts perform at various stations throughout the park, allowing visitors to move freely between events.
This freely accessible format is made possible by funding from the European LEADER program for rural development. This support allows professional artists to be compensated without the need to charge admission. Those who wish can contribute to the traditional "Hut" (tip hat) at the end of a performance – a proven format in contemporary street art.
Großenkneten's Bürgerpark is a central meeting point for the community and has been the venue for cultural and club events for years. SpielART utilizes this infrastructure, transforming the park into a stage for a day. With seating, catering, and a family-friendly environment, it offers ideal conditions for a relaxed open-air event.
The festival distributes its program across several stations in the Bürgerpark. Visitors can freely move between acts, find seating, and enjoy the atmosphere with food and drinks. Some acts are repeated throughout the day, ensuring all guests can experience all program points.
Program changes due to weather will be announced on spielart-geest.de.
