Traditional Kirwa of the Alt-Speichersdorfer Kirwagesellschaft in an anniversary year
The Speichersdorfer Kirwa is one of the most traditional Kirchweihen in western Upper Palatinate and the border region of Upper Franconia. In 2026, it celebrates its 111th anniversary – a special occasion for the municipality of Speichersdorf in the Bayreuth district, which, with its numerous districts, is closely associated with Kirwa customs.
The Kirwa is organized by the Alt-Speichersdorfer Kirwagesellschaft and celebrated in the Kreutzer-Stodl. The anniversary includes the "Horrido Express" and the traditional "Aufsingen" (singing) of former Kirwa couples – a custom where previous Kirwa couples are honored with songs. This visibly keeps the decades-long history of the Speichersdorfer Kirwa alive.
As with any Franconian-Upper Palatinate Kirwa, conviviality, music, regional specialties, and customs are at the center. The Kreutzer-Stodl becomes a meeting point for the village community, former and active Kirwa couples, and guests from the region.
Speichersdorf is located in the east of the Bayreuth district on the border with Upper Palatinate. The municipality with its districts maintains a lively club and customs life – the Kirwa is one of the most important festival dates of the year, reaching a special highlight in 2026 with its 111th anniversary.
For 2026, the Speichersdorfer Kirwa is scheduled for August 1 and 2, 2026 – coinciding with the 111th anniversary. The celebration will be held in the Kreutzer-Stodl.
The anniversary program includes the "Horrido Express" and the traditional singing of former Kirwa couples, where previous Kirwa couples are honored with songs. The Kirwa is organized by the Alt-Speichersdorfer Kirwagesellschaft, chaired by Patrick Sendelweck. Further details of the program will be announced by the Kirwagesellschaft.
The anniversary commemorates 111 years of Speichersdorfer Kirwa. The exact program sequence will be published by the Alt-Speichersdorfer Kirwagesellschaft.
