Overview

The Sommerkino Alsterdorfer Markt 2025 ran on four Friday evenings in August. Hamburg's only fully accessible open-air cinema with subtitles, audio description, and induction loops. The highlight, as always, was the Casablanca screening with live audio description. Free admission. Organizer: Evangelische Stiftung Alsterdorf.

The 2025 edition continued the established format: four Friday evenings in August, film screenings on the Alsterdorfer Markt, all with subtitles and audio description. The organizer was the Evangelische Stiftung Alsterdorf — Hamburg's largest diaconal institution, which anchors a concrete inclusion service in the district with the cinema.

Highlights, as in previous years, included special events: Casablanca with live audio description by Stefan Gwildis — a unique performance where the film description was spoken in real-time by a well-known Hamburg musician and transmitted via radio headphones to visually impaired guests. Films like Imagine and Buddy used the innovative Greta & Starks app, which transmits personalized audio description or subtitles to smartphones. The Sommerkino Alsterdorfer Markt thus remains a Hamburg unique — and a model for accessible cultural events that should be emulated.
