Summer in the Olympic Park
The Summer Festival at Olympiapark is the major summer event series organized by Olympiapark München GmbH. The venue is the entire Olympiapark around the Olympiasee, Olympiaberg, and the Theatron in Munich's 9th district, Milbertshofen-Am Hart. For over three and a half weeks, a diverse open-air program unfolds, blending a high-summer Volksfest (popular festival), a live music stage, and themed weekends – and admission to the festival is free.
Stall Street, Rides, Bar du Soleil
Along the Stall Street, you'll find amusement rides (a large Ferris wheel with views of Olympiapark, carousels, bumper cars), food and drink stands, and game booths. The Bar du Soleil opens at the Olympiasee – a beach bar atmosphere right in the city. Between the water sports activities at the Olympiasee and the stages, there are food truck areas offering Bavarian and international cuisine.
Theatron MusikSommer – the Stage in the Park
Running parallel to the festival is the Theatron MusikSommer on the lakeside stage: daily from 7:00 PM, established bands and newcomers from Munich, Bavaria, Germany, and internationally perform in front of the distinctive Theatron amphitheater by the Olympiasee. Admission to the concerts is free. Since the 1980s, the Theatron has been one of Munich's most important open-air stages.
Four Themed Weekends
The festival is structured by four themed weekends, each with its own focus – in past years, these included Flower Power (flower crowns, tie-dye, basket weaving), Bavaria Culture with a Bavarian focus, Selfmade (DIY workshops like pottery and screen printing), and Move (HIIT, yoga, bouldering). The exact themes for 2026 will be published in advance on olympiapark.de.
Kinderland and Family Activities
Located on the roof of the Kleine Olympiahalle is the Kinderland: a family area with play equipment, creative stations, and physical activity offerings – open daily, free of charge. Throughout the festival weeks, there is also the LiLaLu children's sports area and, on select days, the LEGO Camp.
Fireworks and Highlights
Festive highlights include the fireworks over the Olympiasee on selected Thursday evenings. With the reflection of the pyrotechnics in the lake and the Olympiapark architecture as a backdrop, the fireworks displays are among the most attended festival evenings.
Munich and the Olympiapark
Munich is the state capital of Bavaria with around 1.5 million inhabitants. The Olympiapark was built for the 1972 Olympic Summer Games and is now one of the world's most famous urban park areas. The Summer Festival utilizes the grounds, much like during the Olympic era, as a stage for a high-caliber, accessible public program.
