Freibad Borssum as a District Hub
Freibad Borssum is located in the Borssum district of Emden and is a traditional local swimming pool with a long history. The Friends of Freibad Borssum association, through voluntary commitment, ensures the maintenance and expansion of the pool. A central event format is the annual Sommerfest, which marks the end of the season in the district.
Sommerfest with DJ Jan Tunder
The highlight of the 2026 Sommerfest is the DJ set by Jan Tunder, starting at 7 PM. The DJ is well-known in the East Frisian event scene and creates a great atmosphere with a wide selection of music, from disco classics to current pop and dance hits. The atmosphere on the outdoor pool grounds is familiar and relaxed.
Accompanying Formats
The association organizes other events beyond the season: a teen DJ party and a beat night complement the summer program. These formats are aimed at different target groups – the teen party for young people, the beat night for an adult audience with a penchant for classic pop and rock sounds.
Admission and Sponsorship
Admission to the Sommerfest is included in the regular outdoor pool entry fee. Food and drinks are sold by the association or partners on-site. The proceeds support the maintenance of the pool. The event is a good example of civic engagement that keeps a local recreational facility vibrant.
