Six and a half kilometer circular route through the Siebeldingen vineyards with all self-marketing vintners and open house at Geilweilerhof – awarded Most Beautiful Wine Festival of the Palatinate 2014
The Culinary Vineyard Hike Siebeldingen is one of the most charming and simultaneously demanding wine experiences in the Palatinate. It combines hiking, enjoyment, and personal contact with the vintners, leading visitors directly through the vineyards where the wines are grown.
The Sigibaldusweg is a 6.5-kilometer circular route through the Siebeldingen vineyards. It begins and ends in the village center and leads over farm tracks through vines, orchards, and almond tree avenues. The route is well-marked as a hiking trail and suitable for families, although not consistently suitable for strollers or wheelchairs. Registration is not required; visitors can start anytime between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. and will need between 3 and 6 hours depending on pace and number of breaks.
A special feature of the event is the participation of all Siebeldingen self-marketing vintners – that is, the local winemakers who sell their wines directly. At the stations along the route, they offer their wines for tasting and sale, complemented by culinary specials and Palatinate specialties. The highlight is the Open House at Geilweilerhof, the renowned Federal Research Institute for Viticulture. Here, visitors can taste research wines, learn about new grape varieties, and get a glimpse into the work of the scientists.
In 2014, the Culinary Vineyard Hike Siebeldingen was awarded Most Beautiful Wine Festival of the Palatinate – an award given annually by the state of Rhineland-Palatinate to particularly successful wine events. The combination of natural experience, wine culture, and personal contact with producers sets the event apart from the dense array of Palatinate wine festivals.
Siebeldingen, with around 1,100 inhabitants, is located on the Southern Wine Route between Landau and Annweiler. The village is closely linked to Geilweilerhof, which has served as the Federal Research Institute for Viticulture since the 1950s and has produced some of the globally widespread, disease-resistant grape varieties (PIWI) – including Phoenix and Regent.
The 2026 edition continues the proven concept: a circular route through the vineyards, stations at all self-marketing vintners, and an Open House at Geilweilerhof. The exact program for 2026 with stations, specials, and any musical contributions will be published by the organizer in the summer. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years.
