Romantic evening market at the Alter Markt with jewellery, spices, live music, and children's activities
The Sickinger Mondscheinmarkt in Landstuhl is one of the most charming evening markets in the Westpfalz region. It takes place every year at the beginning of June at the Alter Markt in the heart of the Sickingen town, attracting not only locals but also visitors from Kaiserslautern, Pirmasens, and the entire Sickinger Land.
Unlike traditional weekly markets, the Mondscheinmarkt takes place in the late afternoon and evening. As the sun slowly sets over Nanstein Castle, fairy lights and lanterns begin to softly illuminate the Alter Markt. The stalls offer jewellery, leather goods, decorative items, essential oils, spices, natural cosmetics, honey, cheese, and other selected specialities. Guests stroll between the stalls with wine, cocktails, or a cool beer in hand, enjoying the lively atmosphere.
The regional band Peifedeggel traditionally provides the musical accompaniment, serenading the evening with Palatinate songs, cover versions, and their own compositions. The blend of atmospheric lighting, regional music, and selected stalls gives the Mondscheinmarkt a charm that goes far beyond a typical market.
Families are also welcome: a bouncy castle and child-friendly activities offer younger guests their own programme while parents visit the stalls or enjoy the town centre's gastronomy.
Landstuhl is located about 12 kilometres west of Kaiserslautern on the Mannheim–Saarbrücken railway line. The Alter Markt is situated in the historic town centre, within walking distance of Landstuhl station and car parks. By car, Landstuhl is accessible via the A 6 (Landstuhl-West or -Ost exit) and the A 62.
In 2026, the Sickinger Mondscheinmarkt enters its 14th edition. As in previous years, jewellery, decorative items, natural cosmetics, essential oils, spices, and culinary specialities are the focus. The romantically lit stalls and the live music by the band Peifedeggel give the market a special charm.
As the evening progresses, the Alter Markt becomes increasingly illuminated by fairy lights and lanterns, so the stalls glow in warm light after sunset. The Mondscheinmarkt is particularly suitable for relaxed evening strolls, cosy get-togethers with friends, and for finding special gifts.
