100 Years of Zasenbeck Children's Festival – Anniversary Edition 2026
With its 100th anniversary in 2026, the Zasenbeck Shooting Club honors a remarkable tradition. Since 1926, the children's festival has been held in the small village near Wittingen – through two world wars, reconstruction, reunification, and societal changes. This makes the children's festival older than many adult shooting festivals and an expression of a deeply rooted tradition of youth development in the shooting club movement.
The children's festival follows the model of adult shooting festivals in a child-friendly format. Instead of air or small-caliber rifles, shooting is done with light rifles, foam darts, or projectiles. Instead of a king's title in the narrow sense, there is a children's king and a children's queen. Instead of a multi-day festival, the children's festival is usually concentrated on one day or an evening event.
On June 20, 2026, the children will gather at the Zasenbeck shooting grounds. After the welcome and a child-friendly opening ceremony, the children's king competition begins in various age groups. During the competitions, there will be games and activities: bouncy castle, skill games, face painting. The highlight is the proclamation of the children's monarchs, followed by a small festive parade and a children's dance with families.
The children's festival is part of the Zasenbeck Schützenfest and takes place within the framework of the larger club festival. This means the event is organizationally integrated into the shooting club's festival infrastructure. The family atmosphere and intergenerational participation shape the experience.
The 100th anniversary gives the 2026 Children's Festival special significance. The Zasenbeck Shooting Club is planning a ceremony to honor the club's history, recognize children and helpers, involve neighboring shooting clubs, and enhance the proclamation ceremony.
The actual children's king competition follows the proven format: children compete against each other in several age groups using age-appropriate equipment. During the competitions, a bouncy castle, face painting, and skill games provide variety. The proclamation of the children's monarchs is the highlight of the day, followed by a small festive parade and a family dance.
