Traditional festival of the Wietze-Steinförde marksmen's association — July 31 to August 2, 2026
The municipality of Wietze is located in the Allertal region, north of Celle. Wietze is known for its unique industrial history: Crude oil was extracted here as early as the mid-19th century — one of the oldest oil fields in Europe. The German Oil Museum Wietze commemorates this history. In addition to this industrial tradition, a strong marksmen tradition is kept alive in the village, supported by the Wietze-Steinförde marksmen's association.
The association unites marksmen from the two neighboring villages of Wietze and Steinförde. The annual marksmen's festival on the last weekend of July is one of the fixed dates in the association's calendar and the village's annual events. Embedded in the Celle District Marksmen's Association, the club maintains contacts with numerous neighboring associations, which gladly participate as guests in the festival parade.
The marksmen's festival follows the proven dramaturgy of the Heide marksmen's festivals: Dance evening on Friday, king's shoot and festival ball on Saturday, festival parade and morning pint on Sunday. The highlight is the proclamation of the new marksmen's king and his court. The festival parade through Wietze's town center with a marching band and marksmen's companies is a highlight for the village community.
Wietze belongs to the district of Celle and is conveniently located on the B 214 federal road. The marksmen's festival brings together not only the residents of Wietze but also guests from the neighboring towns of Hambühren, Winsen (Aller), and Bergen. In the festival tent, dance bands and DJs ensure a lively atmosphere, while bratwurst, beer, and fries are the culinary classics.
The detailed 2026 program will be published by the marksmen's association in advance. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
Wietze is located north of Celle, conveniently situated on the B 214 (Celle–Schwarmstedt). By car via the A 7 (exit Westenholz). Parking is available at the festival grounds and in the adjacent streets.
Admission fees apply for dance balls held on-site. The festival parade and morning pint are freely accessible.
Anyone visiting Wietze should make a detour to the German Oil Museum — a unique industrial history collection in Germany located in the middle of a heath village.
