About Schützenfest Todenmann

From June 20th to 22nd, 2026, the Bürgerschützen Rinteln von 1450 e.V. will celebrate their grand marksmen's festival at the Eichenwald in the Todenmann district. With roots reaching back to Rinteln's medieval civic marksmen's traditions, the association is one of the oldest marksmen's societies in Lower Saxony. The festival at Eichenwald follows the traditional structure of North German marksmen's festivals: Muster and opening on Friday, grand parade, king's shooting competition, and festival evening on Saturday, morning pint, family day, and king's proclamation on Sunday. A festival tent, shooting ranges, carousels, food stalls, and a beer garden will transform the club grounds on Buchenweg into a classic Schaumburg festival site. Members, families, friendly associations from the Schaumburg Marksmen's Association, and citizens from the entire Rinteln city area are expected.

Bürgerschützen with Medieval Roots

The Bürgerschützen Rinteln trace their founding back to the year 1450 – deep in the late Middle Ages, a time when marksmen's societies secured the defense of the Hanseatic cities and market rights. Over the centuries, the defense aspect evolved into a traditional club with a sporting focus. Today, the association is one of the most traditional marksmen's societies in Lower Saxony and cultivates its customs with modern club life.

Festival Grounds at Eichenwald

The marksmen's festival takes place on the club grounds at Eichenwald in the Todenmann district, with access via Buchenweg. A festival tent, shooting ranges, carousels, beer garden, and food stalls will be set up for the weekend. The location on the edge of the forest creates a special atmosphere that sets the marksmen's festival apart from urban festival events.

Festival Weekend Friday to Sunday

The festival spans three days. It kicks off on Friday with the marksmen mustering at the clubhouse and the festival opening in the tent. Saturday features the king's shooting competition and, in the evening, the grand dance. Sunday concludes with a morning pint, family day, king's proclamation, and the king's reception. The festively decorated streets of Rinteln reflect the citizens' connection to this traditional club.

Embedded in the Schaumburg Marksmen's Calendar

The marksmen's tradition is deeply rooted in the Schaumburg region. Numerous villages and districts hold annual marksmen's festivals, some with traditions stretching back several centuries. The Bürgerschützen Rinteln von 1450 hold a prominent position within this network – the marksmen's festival at Eichenwald is a fixture of the summer.
