Schützenfest of the SV Schönemoor in the municipality of Ganderkesee on June 6 and 7, 2026 — King's proclamation on Sunday evening
The Schützenfest of the Schützenverein Schönemoor is part of the festival calendar of the Ganderkeseer Schützenbund and will take place in 2026 on June 6 and 7. In the Schönemoor district of the municipality of Ganderkesee, the club gathers its members, guests, and the village population for the traditional weekend with bird shooting, king's dinner, festival parade, and dance evening.
On Sunday evening at 7 p.m., the new Schützenkönig (shooting king) or Schützenkönigin (shooting queen) will be proclaimed — the highlight of the weekend. The Schützenfest is part of the cycle of twelve Schützenfeste that the Ganderkeseer Schützenbund celebrates in its districts between May and August.
The Schützenverein Schönemoor is one of the twelve member clubs of the Ganderkeseer Schützenbund. Its club life has shaped village life in Schönemoor for generations — a district of the municipality of Ganderkesee between Bremen and Oldenburg. The club maintains a clubhouse with shooting ranges and a festival grounds that becomes a festival mile over the Schützenfest weekend.
The Schützenfest follows the classic structure of North German shooting traditions. Bird shooting on the festival grounds, king's shooting for the royal title, king's dinner for the reigning court, festival parade through the village, dance evening in the festival tent, and family day with activities for the youngest generation. The music bands and ensembles from the region play a special role, providing musical accompaniment for the festival parade.
The central moment of the weekend is the proclamation of the new majesties on Sunday evening. The reigning king relinquishes his title, the new majesties are adorned with the king's chain and presented to the assembly. This is followed by the king's dinner with the new court.
With the date on June 6/7, 2026, the Schönemoor festival fits between the Federal Shooting Festival at the end of May and the other club festivals. The complete festival calendar of the twelve clubs of the Ganderkeseer Schützenbund is documented in the regional press (NWZ, Weser-Kurier).
