Three Shooting Festivals, One Municipality

The municipality of Hambergen in the Osterholz district is known for a special phenomenon: over a consecutive weekend in June, the villages of Axstedt, Steden, and Vollersode simultaneously celebrate their shooting festivals. This constellation is regionally unique and an expression of an unbroken shooting culture that is independently maintained in each individual village. Those who want to visit all three festivals can travel between the festival grounds and gain an impression of the diversity of rural festival traditions.

Steden as an Independent Festival Village

Despite its small size, Steden maintains its own festival tradition. The local shooting club organizes the festival independently and decorates the festival grounds according to the village's customs. The festival program follows the classic pattern of North German shooting festivals: festival parade, king's shooting, bird shooting, coronation, shooting ball, and morning pint.

Festival Parade Through the Village

The festive start of the festival is the parade through the village. Accompanied by music clubs and friendly shooting clubs, the participants march in uniform through Steden. Houses are decorated, the population lines the route, and actively participates in their village's festival.

Bird Shooting and Shooting Ball

The bird shooting is the sporting highlight of the festival. The coronation of the new monarchs takes place in the festival tent and is celebrated with a shooting ball. Live music or DJ sets ensure a long festival night where the village community and its guests come together.
