Schützenfest of the St. Servatius Schützenverein Beesten since 1657 — almost 370 years of tradition
The St. Servatius Schützenverein Beesten 1657 e.V. was founded in the mid-17th century — shortly after the end of the Thirty Years' War. With almost 370 years of club history, it is one of the oldest marksmen's associations in southern Emsland and has shaped village life in Beesten ever since.
The association bears the name of Saint Servatius, an important early Christian bishop with special veneration in the Lower Rhine and Dutch regions. In the predominantly Catholic region of southern Emsland, the veneration of Servatius is part of the local identity.
Beesten is a small, rural community in the Samtgemeinde Freren. Like many small Emsland communities, Beesten has kept its village club culture alive — the Schützenverein, the parish, the sports clubs, and music clubs together form the backbone of social life.
Festival kickoff with picking up the king, march to the festival grounds, opening evening with live music or DJ.
Festive church service in honor of St. Servatius, bird shooting contest, king's dinner, festive parade, proclamation of the king, dance evening.
Family afternoon, further shooting competitions, morning pint (Frühschoppen), closing evening.
Like all rural Schützenfeste, the Beesten festival thrives on the voluntary commitment of its members. From setting up the festival tent to managing the catering, much is organized in-house — this makes the festival familiar, approachable, and personal.
The 2026 edition continues the centuries-old tradition. The Catholic St. Servatius tradition shapes the festival program with a festive church service and parade.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the club in advance. The structure follows the proven key points:
