Traditional marksmen's festival in the Hankensbüttel municipality since 1859
With its founding year of 1859, the Schweimke Marksmen's Association is one of the most traditional clubs in the Hankensbüttel municipality. For generations, members have cultivated the marksmen's culture, contributing significantly to the preservation of village life. The club structure includes active marksmen, a ladies' department, a youth section, and a core group of honorary members who shape club life.
The Schweimke district is located a few kilometers south of the main town of Hankensbüttel and is surrounded by typical heathland with small forests, meadows, and fields. Its location on the edge of the Südheide Nature Park makes the region an attractive destination for hikers and nature lovers. The nearby Otter Centre Hankensbüttel and Lake Isenhagen are popular excursion destinations.
The marksmen's festival follows the classic structure of a North German marksmen's festival. Saturday features shooting competitions and a festive evening with dancing. Sunday begins with the assembly of the marksmen, followed by the king's shooting, the parade, and the proclamation of the king. The ceremonial conclusion is the King's Dinner with the club family.
In the rural villages of the Hankensbüttel municipality, the marksmen's festival plays a central role in social cohesion. It is a place for reunions, a stage for honors, and an occasion for family celebrations. The close connection between generations and the active engagement of young people ensure the continuation of the tradition.
On Saturday, June 13, 2026, the festival weekend begins with shooting competitions at the marksmen's grounds and a festive evening with catering and dancing. On Sunday, June 14, the traditional parade through the village, the king's shooting, the proclamation of the new monarchs, and the King's Dinner will follow.
The marching band from the municipality will musically accompany the festivities. Friendly marksmen's associations from the region will participate in the parade. The association itself will provide food and drinks with classic North German festival cuisine.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the spring. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
