Shooting Tradition in Rosengarten

Rosengarten is a municipality in the western district of Harburg, located southwest of the Hanseatic city of Hamburg and on the edge of the Lüneburger Heide. The shooting clubs in the various districts each maintain their own shooting traditions, with Sauensiek and Vahrendorf organizing a joint festival.

Three Days of Festivities from July 21st to 23rd, 2026

Tuesday to Thursday form the framework of the festival. The somewhat unusual weekday schedule, Tuesday to Thursday, arises from the festival calendar of the many shooting clubs in the Harburg district, who traditionally coordinate their dates to allow for mutual visits between clubs.

King's Shooting and Royal Families

The highlight of the club year is the competition for the royal title. With the king's shooting, Sauensiek and Vahrendorf each determine their new monarchs, who will help shape the coming year and the next festival. The ceremonial proclamation brings both royal families together.

Grand Zapfenstreich and Festive Parade

The Grand Zapfenstreich in the evening is one of the emotional highlights – in the encroaching darkness, traditional music sounds under the glow of torches. The festive parade the following day leads the marksmen, the marching bands, and the invited neighboring clubs through both villages.

Festival Tent and Dance Evenings

The festival tent on the Schützenplatz is the center of all evening events. Live bands ensure a full dance floor, and the festival catering offers North German specialties. The family day, with children's king's shooting, carousels, and games, is particularly aimed at the youngest guests.
