Marksmen's Association with Tradition
The Civil Marksmen's Association Sandesneben and Surroundings e.V. hosts the annual Schützenfest in the main town of the municipality of Sandesneben-Nusse. Sandesneben is located in the Duchy of Lauenburg district, east of Hamburg, nestled in the hilly terminal moraine landscape between Lübeck and Mölln.
Two Days at the Lauenburger Hof
The festival takes place over a weekend, with the Lauenburger Hof on Hauptstraße 25 serving as the central venue. Saturday evening traditionally begins with live music and catering on the terrace, followed by the proclamation of the new marksmen's king or queen. Sunday is dedicated to the festive procession, which leads from the school center at Schiphorster Weg through the town to the Lauenburger Hof, accompanied by the Sandesneben music corps. The official presentation of the new monarchs takes place in the afternoon.
King's Ball with Free Admission
Unlike many larger Schützenfeste, the King's Ball in Sandesneben is a publicly accessible event with free admission — a deliberate gesture by the village community to open the festival to all residents and guests of the region. This transforms the Schützenfest into a civic folk festival that extends far beyond the association itself.

Sandesneben has about 2,500 inhabitants and is the administrative seat of the municipality of Sandesneben-Nusse, which unites 22 communities. What to Expect
Saturday evening opens the festival with live music and a barbecue on the terrace of the Lauenburger Hof, before the ceremonial proclamation of the new marksmen's king or queen takes place at 7:30 PM. On Sunday, the festive procession starts at 1:30 PM from the school center at Schiphorster Weg, a musical highlight with the Sandesneben music corps at 3:00 PM, and the official presentation of the new monarchs at 4:00 PM.
