Village Festival with Marksmen's Culture

Lesse, with around 1,500 inhabitants, is one of Salzgitter's smaller but most traditional districts. Village life and old club structures shape everyday life here. The Lesse Marksmen's Association (Schützenbund Lesse e.V.), located at Sangeweg 29, is a central pillar of this club life and organizes its annual marksmen's festival with great dedication. Members and their families invest weeks of time in setting up, planning the program, and executing the three-day festival.

Classic Festival Schedule

The Lesse marksmen's festival follows the proven dramaturgy of North German marksmen's festivals. On Friday evening, the festival tent opens with live music and a dance night. Saturday is dedicated to the bird shooting and king shooting competitions, followed by another evening in the festival tent. On Sunday, the grand parade through Lesse forms the visual highlight, followed by the proclamation of the king and the ceremonial King's Dinner.

During the parade on Sunday, the marksmen's companies, music bands, floats, and guest clubs march through the streets of Lesse. The local population traditionally lines the route, celebrating the marksmen with applause and small refreshments.

Sociability at the Marksmen's Hall

Beyond the festival weekend, the marksmen's hall at Sangeweg serves the club as a meeting point for regular club evenings, training sessions, and competitions. The Lesse Marksmen's Association is a member of the Salzgitter District Marksmen's Association and participates in the City Marksmen's Day.
