Fortress, Castle, and Marksmen's Tradition
Sachsenhagen is one of the oldest fortified settlements on the Steinhuder Meer and is known for its former moated castle. The marksmen's tradition is closely linked to this history – for generations, the marksmen have cultivated the connection to the town's history and its citizens. The annual festival is one of the social highlights of the town.
Historic Parade
The historic parade is the centerpiece of the festival weekend – a procession where the marksmen, in traditional uniforms, with flags and a marching band, march through the town center. Citizens decorate the streets with birch branches and club flags. The parade connects the club house with the festival grounds and passes by the castle and the market square.
King's Shoot and Dance Evening
The King's Shoot takes place on the festival grounds. The new monarchs – King, Junior King, Queen, and Children's Queen – are ceremoniously proclaimed in the evening. This is followed by a dance evening with a live band in the festival tent, attended by members, families, and friendly clubs.
Sachsenhagen on the Steinhuder Meer
Sachsenhagen is the seat of the Sachsenhagen municipality in the Schaumburg district, at the transition to the Steinhuder Meer. Its location between Stadthagen, Wunstorf, and the recreational area makes it an attractive destination for day-trippers as well. During the marksmen's festival weekend, visitors get an authentic insight into the well-preserved customs of the region.
