Traditional marksmen's festival of the Bürgerschützenverein Rinteln von 1450 e.V., one of Germany's oldest marksmen's associations, at the Eichenwald shooting range
With its founding date of 1450, the Bürgerschützenverein Rinteln ranks among the oldest marksmen's associations in Germany. In the early modern period, civic marksmen's guilds were part of the urban defence system; they ensured the city's defence and regularly practiced handling the firearms of the time. The modern marksmen's tradition, which is primarily sporting and social but cherishes its historical roots, has evolved over the centuries from this originally military mandate.
The Eichenwald shooting range on the outskirts of Rinteln is the home ground of the marksmen's association. Sporting competitions and training sessions take place here throughout the year, and the grand Schützenfest is also celebrated here. The facility is picturesquely located at the edge of the forest and offers ample space for the festival tent, fairground, and shooting ranges.
From August 28th to 30th, 2026, the BSV Rinteln 1450 will celebrate its Schützenfest. Setup work will begin on Thursday, August 27th. The festival will kick off on Friday evening, Saturday will focus on the bird shooting competition to determine the new king, and Sunday will feature the festival service, the grand parade, the king's dinner, and a family day to conclude the festivities. Friendly marksmen's associations from the Schaumburg region and beyond are invited and contribute to the festival's supra-regional significance with their participation.
The BSV Rinteln 1450 is far more than a historical heritage; the association is a vibrant part of Rinteln's community life. With younger and older members, a ladies' department, junior marksmen, and active board work, the association continues the tradition while adapting it to contemporary demands. The 2026 Schützenfest makes this connection tangible.
The 2026 edition of the Schützenfest continues the centuries-old tradition of the BSV Rinteln 1450. The board and club members are preparing the festival with great effort; setup of the festival tent and stalls begins on Thursday, August 27th.
The festival opens on Friday evening, Saturday focuses on the bird shooting competition, and Sunday features the festival service, parade, and king's dinner.
The exact 2026 programme with start times will be published by BSV Rinteln 1450 in summer 2026. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years: preparation on Thursday, festival opening on Friday, king's shooting and ball on Saturday, parade and king's dinner on Sunday. Friendly marksmen's associations are invited.
