Three-day Schützenfest of the Schützenverein Moisburg with youth kickoff on Friday and Zapfenstreich on the sports field
The Schützenverein Moisburg is the local custodian of shooting traditions in the small heath village on the Este river, southwest of Hamburg. The club hosts its annual main festival on the Moisburg sports field and forms a central part of village club life. Club shooting competitions, the King's Ball, and preparatory meetings structure the club year.
Moisburg is a municipality in the Hollenstedt municipality in the Harburg district. The village is located on the Este river between Buchholz and Buxtehude and is nestled in the rolling heath landscape of the Nordheide. The Esteburg castle and the historic water mill characterize the village's appearance and underscore Moisburg's close connection to its traditions.
A programmatic highlight of the Moisburg festival is the youth kickoff on Friday at 4 PM. While other clubs open their Schützenfest with adult competitions, in Moisburg, the youth marksmen and their band take charge of opening the festival. This deliberate appreciation of the next generation is a clear commitment to youth development and ensures the long-term vitality of the club tradition. Young marksmen from school age onwards are thus integrated into the festival events early on, developing a sense of responsibility for their club life.
Following the youth kickoff, the traditional Zapfenstreich takes place on Friday evening, marking the ceremonial official start of the festival. A marching band and the shooting club's band shape this ceremony, which solemnly ushers in the festival days. The Zapfenstreich is one of the most traditional moments of North German shooting culture, combining the joy of the festival with respect for the club's history.
On Saturday and Sunday, the classic program points follow: bird shooting to determine the new majesties, a parade through Moisburg with the participation of friendly shooting clubs from the Hollenstedt municipality, the proclamation of the king, and a festival ball. The Frühschoppen on Sunday morning and the concluding festival afternoon form the convivial end to the festival weekend, during which the entire village community comes together in the festival tent.
The 2026 edition continues the proven format with a youth kickoff on Friday and a classic Schützenfest weekend. The three-day structure allows for a dense program of ceremonies, shooting competitions, and social gatherings in the festival tent.
The exact hourly schedule with bird shooting, parade, and king's proclamation will be published by the Schützenverein Moisburg in spring 2026 on schuetzenverein-moisburg.de.
The exact 2026 program will be published by the organizer in spring. The structure follows the proven key points:
