June Kerwe in Neustadt's smallest wine village with Kerwe excavation, cycling race, and children's theatre
The Duttweiler Kerwe is the June Kerwe of Neustadt's smallest wine village on the Weinstraße. Duttweiler is located slightly off the classic Palatinate Wine Route in the eastern Rhine plain and differs from the Haardtrand wine villages due to its flatter terrain and different geological base.
The 2026 edition takes place from Friday, June 19th to Tuesday, June 23rd — the fourth weekend in June, traditionally held concurrently with the Königsbacher Weinkerwe. Despite the competition, the Duttweiler Kerwe has a loyal following: Palatinate festival connoisseurs appreciate the small village's family-friendly atmosphere.
The festival opening on Friday evening features two traditional Palatinate customs: the Kerweausgrabung (a symbolic re-excavation of the 'Kerwe figure' that was buried for a year) and the Kerwebekränzung (decorating the Kerwe sculpture with flowers). Afterwards, the Schlager live music program begins.
On Saturday, rock music dominates the festival evening — a deliberate contrast to Friday evening's Schlager mood. On Sunday at 3 PM, the Duttweiler Kerwe offers children's theatre — a family program that makes the Palatinate Kerwe day attractive for the youngest guests.
However, the absolute highlight of the festival days is the 34th cycling race 'Großer Preis der Württembergischen Versicherung' on Monday at 6 PM. This traditional criterium race circles the village multiple times and attracts hobby cyclists and ambitious amateurs from across the region. The race route is lined with Palatinate Kerwe atmosphere — an unusual mix of a sporting event and a folk festival.
Culinary and oenologically, the Kerwe is shaped by the Duttweiler vintners — including the renowned Weingut Küborth & Sinn. The wines — primarily Riesling, Müller-Thurgau, and Schwarzriesling specialties — are served in the courtyards and at the festival grounds.
The 2026 edition of the Duttweiler Kerwe comprises five days of festivities from June 19th to 23rd. The program combines classic Palatinate Kerwe traditions with an unusual sporting highlight on the festival Monday.
The complete 2026 program with all times will be published by the organizer in spring/summer. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years and has been maintained for decades.
The event is part of the rich Palatinate festival culture, which attracts thousands of guests to the Neustadt an der Weinstraße region every year. The combination of wine culture, Palatinate hospitality, and established festival traditions forms the unmistakable identity of this Palatinate festival institution.
