Three-day marksmen's festival of the Maschen Marksmen's Association in the municipality of Seevetal
Maschen is a district of the municipality of Seevetal in the northern district of Harburg, in close proximity to the Hanseatic city of Hamburg. Maschen is primarily known for its marshalling yard, which is one of the largest in Europe. However, village life in Maschen is characterized by active club life, with the Marksmen's Association being one of the traditional pillars.
Friday to Sunday form the framework of the festival. Friday opens with the King's Shoot and the first dance evening, Saturday features the Grand Tattoo, the ceremonial parade, and the King's Ball, while Sunday concludes with a morning pint, Family Day, and the proclamation of the new King.
The highlight of every Schützenfest is the competition for the royal title. The King's Shoot on Friday determines the new monarchs. The ceremonial parade on Saturday leads the marksmen, the drum and bugle corps, and invited neighboring clubs through Maschen, with residents festively decorating their houses and lining the route.
The Grand Tattoo on Saturday evening is one of the emotional highlights – traditional music sounds in the encroaching darkness under the glow of torches. The marksmen kings are honored, and the club banner is presented.
The large festival marquee on the Schützenplatz is the center of all evening events. The King's Ball on Saturday with a live band draws the club family and neighbors onto the dance floor until late into the night. Family Day on Sunday offers a children's king's shoot, carousels, a bouncy castle, and games for the youngest guests.
The 2026 edition continues the tradition of the association. As always, the entire Maschen village community is invited to celebrate together for three days, from the King's Shoot on Friday to the proclamation on Sunday.
The location in Seevetal with direct S-Bahn connection from Hamburg makes the festival easily accessible even for guests from the Hanseatic city.
