Schützenfest Mackendorf

Mackendorf — District of the Velpke Municipality

Mackendorf is a district of the Velpke municipality in the northeastern Helmstedt district. The small, village-like settlement thrives on its intact club life and close-knit community. For generations, the Schützenfest has been the outstanding event of the club year here.

Mackendorf Rifle Association

The Mackendorf Rifle Association is the organizer of the Schützenfest and a pillar of village life. Men and women of all generations are involved in the association. The annual organization of the Schützenfest is supported by volunteers and represents the greatest achievement of the club year.

Summer Schützenfest in August

Unlike the Whitsun Schützenfeste in other parts of the municipality, the Mackendorf Schützenfest takes place in mid-summer. Mid-August — when the harvest is almost complete and the village community can take a breath — is the ideal time for three days of festivities. The warm weather also ensures an extensive open-air experience.

King's Shooting and King's Proclamation

The highlight of every Schützenfest is the king's shooting competition. The best shot crowns the new shooting king, who, with his court, will lead the club's social activities for a year. The ceremonial proclamation of the king is one of the emotional highlights of the festival weekend.

Festival Parade and Marquee

The traditional festival parade winds through the streets of Mackendorf. Riflemen in uniform, marching bands, music ensembles, and friendly clubs march through the decorated village with music. The evening dance and program events with live bands and DJs take place in the marquee.

Sunday — Morning Pint and Family Day

Sunday morning features a traditional morning pint (Frühschoppen) with brass music. Sunday afternoon is family-oriented: children's shooting, bouncy castle, games, and refreshments. The Schützenfest concludes in the late Sunday afternoon with a convivial get-together.
