Traditional Knesebeck marksmen's festival on the weekend after Pentecost
Knesebeck, with around 2,600 inhabitants, is the largest district of the town of Wittingen in the Gifhorn district. The formerly independent village has retained its distinct character and boasts a vibrant club life. The marksmen's association, the local history and culture association, the fire department, and numerous other clubs shape the social life.
The Knesebeck Schützenfest is traditionally scheduled for the weekend after Pentecost. This has allowed it to find its own niche in the region's crowded Schützenfest calendar, distinguishing it from the Pentecost date of many neighboring communities. In 2026, the weekend falls from May 30 to June 1.
The special feature of the Knesebeck festival is the participation of three strong pipe and drum corps, which accompany the parades. With drums, pipes, lyres, and marches, they create a sonically impressive setting that complements the visual spectacle of the many uniformed marksmen. Parades through the streets of Knesebeck thus become a true spectacle.
As with every Schützenfest, the competition for the title of King is central. The new monarch is proclaimed in a solemn ceremony; the handover of the king's chain and insignia takes place in the festival tent. The King's Dinner on Sunday brings together the marksmen and distinguished guests.
The main organizer is the Schützengesellschaft Knesebeck e.V. The festival is organized in collaboration with the Heimat- und Kulturverein Knesebeck (HKV); the close integration ensures a program that goes beyond purely marksmen-specific elements and also incorporates cultural and social aspects.
The 2026 edition continues the successful format. The combination of a classic marksmen's festival and the special musical density provided by three bands remains Knesebeck's hallmark.
Visitors should experience the grand parade on Sunday – the uniformed marksmen with all the pipe and drum corps offer a spectacle that impressively conveys the tradition of German marksmen's associations.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the Schützengesellschaft in the spring. The structure follows the established key points:
Schützenplatz Knesebeck, 29379 Wittingen-Knesebeck (Gifhorn district).
By car via the A39, exit Wittingen, then B244 towards Knesebeck. Parking is available at the festival grounds and in the surrounding streets.
Weekend after Pentecost, May 30 to June 1, 2026.
