Kluse-Ahlen in the Dörpen Collective Municipality

Kluse is a municipality within the Dörpen collective municipality in the Emsland district, situated in the northern part of the collective municipality. Ahlen is associated with the local shooting club (Schützenverein), which maintains its grounds at Pollertstraße 3. As in many villages in the Emsland region, the shooting club plays a central role in community life and organizes the annual Schützenfest as a key event for the village community.

Two Festival Days in August

The festival in 2026 spans two days, from Saturday, August 8th to Sunday, August 9th. The late summer date makes the Kluse-Ahlen festival one of the later Schützenfeste in the Dörpen collective municipality, following festivals in Neudersum (May), Dersum (May), Neurhede (July), and Heede (July). Saturday marks the festive start with assembly and the evening ball, while Sunday features the King's Shoot and the King's proclamation, followed by the King's dinner.

King's Shoot and Tradition

The King's Shoot (Königsschießen) is also the central sporting and symbolic highlight of the Schützenfest for the Ahlen association. During the shooting at the wooden bird, marksmen compete for the title of King. Whoever shoots off the last splinter is proclaimed King and chooses their Queen. The new royal couple will represent the association for a year at guest festivals and events.

The Dörpen collective municipality is home to numerous active shooting clubs that celebrate their festivals throughout the season. The Kluse-Ahlen festival on August 8th and 9th, along with other late summer festivals in the region, concludes the shooting season, offering a festive end before the transition into the quieter autumn period.
