One of Germany's Oldest Shooting Brotherhoods
The St. Sebastianus Bruderschaft Kaiserswerth 1285 e.V. is one of Germany's oldest shooting brotherhoods. Documented as early as the 13th century, it has preserved its tradition for over seven centuries – a sense of identity that is palpable at every Schützenfest. In 2026, the brotherhood invites you to its Schützenfest from June 28 to 30.
Kaiserswerth – Düsseldorf's Northernmost District with History
Kaiserswerth is the northernmost district of Düsseldorf, situated on the Rhine between Düsseldorf and Duisburg. Emperor Heinrich IV resided here in the 11th century – the Mühlenturm (mill tower) and the ruins of the imperial palace are still reminders of the place's significance. The historic atmosphere makes Kaiserswerth one of Düsseldorf's most beautiful districts, with well-maintained old buildings, cafés, and a promenade along the Rhine.
Festival Grounds by the Mühlenturm – The Most Beautiful Festival Meadows on the Rhine
The venue is the festival grounds at Herbert-Eulenberg-Weg, directly by the Mühlenturm and in close proximity to the imperial palace ruins. The brotherhood itself describes the location as 'one of the most beautiful festival meadows on the Rhine' – a claim that the view of the river effortlessly fulfills. The festival tent, shooting ranges, and fairground stalls are spread across the meadow.
Three Days of Festivities: DJ Party, Family Night, Coronation Ball
Friday evening, June 28, 2026, opens the festival with a DJ party. Here, members and their families mingle with young guests from Düsseldorf and the surrounding area. A relaxed, party-oriented start that shows: the shooting tradition is not stuck in the past.
Saturday, June 29, 2026, is the traditional family night: children's program in the afternoon, festival evening with a band or dance orchestra in the evening. An atmosphere somewhere between a folk festival and a civic ball.
The highlight is Sunday, June 30, 2026, with the grand coronation ball in the evening. Here, the current royal couple will be honored, and possibly a new one crowned. Those dancing on the floor belong to Düsseldorf's oldest civic society.
Reigning Royal Couple Peter and Petra Gotzes
The current royal couple of the brotherhood are Peter and Petra Gotzes, crowned in 2025 (or three years prior). They represent the brotherhood at all official events, lead the parades, and are the central figures of the coronation celebration.
Family-Friendly – and Open to All
The Kaiserswerth Schützenfest is one of the few Düsseldorf Schützenfeste that explicitly positions itself as family-friendly and expressly welcomes guests from outside the brotherhood. Anyone seeking an authentic impression of Rhenish shooting traditions over the weekend – including a stroll along the Kaiserswerth Rhine promenade – will find it here.
Getting There and Additional Program
Kaiserswerth is reachable in 20 minutes via the U-Bahn line U79 from Düsseldorf main station. Before or after the Schützenfest, a visit to the imperial palace ruins (free entry), the historic town center, and the Rhine promenade is worthwhile. Restaurants and cafés in Kaiserswerth offer upscale Düsseldorf cuisine.
