Insel is one of the districts of the town of Schneverdingen in the Heidekreis district. The name refers to the original topographical location, which is no longer immediately recognizable today – the small settlement is located in the middle of the Lüneburger Heide. A closely connected village community with its own marksmen's club shapes social life.

Schützenverein Insel

The Schützenverein Insel is the central institution of village life. With several generations of active members, the club cultivates the marksmen's tradition and organizes the annual Schützenfest, which forms the social highlight of the club's year.

Festival Weekend in August

The Schützenfest in Insel traditionally takes place in August – a date that falls after the Schneverdingen town festival and the major heath events. It follows the traditional structure: king's shooting on the previous day, festive parade on Saturday, king's proclamation and king's ball on Saturday evening, family program on Sunday.

Festive Parade

The festive parade on Saturday afternoon leads through the center of Insel. Marksmen's companies in uniform, friendly clubs from the Schneverdingen districts (Zahrensen, Schülern, and the town club), marching bands, and music groups march from the Schützenplatz through the village. The connection with the neighbors is visible here.

King's Ball

The King's Ball is celebrated in the festival tent on Saturday evening. The new marksmen's king is proclaimed and awarded the king's chain. Live music accompanies the festivities late into the night.
