Whitsun Schützenfest of the Handorf-Langenberg Marksmen's Association in the Holdorf districts
The Handorf-Langenberg Marksmen's Association is a merger of two neighboring districts of the Holdorf municipality, who cultivate their club tradition together. The close bond between the two villages is expressed in their shared festival culture, club uniform, and joint royal court. This constellation is not uncommon in the Lower Saxony marksmen's scene and is an expression of pragmatic village solidarity.
The anchoring on the Whitsun weekend is a consciously chosen accent: While other local marksmen's clubs focus on midsummer dates, Handorf-Langenberg uses the early season to kick off the region's festival campaign. In 2026, Whit Sunday falls on May 24th; the festival begins the day before.
Highlights include the traditional parade through the two districts with the marksmen's company, friendly clubs, a marching band, and a music corps, as well as the king's shooting at the association's own shooting range. Afterward, the new king and queen and their court are solemnly proclaimed in the festival tent and welcomed with a champagne reception and honors.
The festival grounds, with the festival tent, shooting range, food stalls, and club building, form the social center of the two districts during the festival weekend. Dance evenings with live music, communal meals, and convivial gatherings in the catering area have been the essence of the festival for generations.
The detailed program for 2026, including the times for each event, will be published by the Handorf-Langenberg Marksmen's Association on the club's website and in the local press. The general schedule follows the established Whitsun tradition.
