St. Johannes Schützengilde Garrel
The St. Johannes Schützengilde Garrel e.V. is one of the central clubs in the municipality of Garrel in the southern district of Cloppenburg. The patron saint John refers to the Catholic tradition of marksmen's guilds in the Oldenburg Münsterland region. The Schützenfest is considered the social highlight of the club's year and attracts numerous guests from the region every year. In 2026, the festival will be celebrated as a jubilee Schützenfest – an occasion for special program points and honors.
Classic Schedule of a Schützenfest
The three-day festival follows the classic schedule of North German Schützenfeste in the Oldenburg Münsterland: collection of the king on Saturday, festive parade, church service, king's dinner, proclamation and coronation of the new royal court, and evening dances in the festival tent with a live band. In addition, there will be a children's king's shooting competition, cup competitions, a morning pint (Frühschoppen), and a family day on Monday.
