Frankenfeld — Schützenfest and Erntedankfest

Frankenfeld in the Samtgemeinde Rethem

Frankenfeld is a small municipality in the Samtgemeinde Rethem in the western Heidekreis district. With only a few hundred inhabitants, it is a typical heath and Allerland village. Its location between the Aller and Leine rivers shapes the landscape, and club life shapes the village community. The community hall is the meeting point and festival venue for the most important occasions of the year.

Schützenfest in Summer

The local club's Schützenfest is one of the social highlights of the summer. King's shooting the day before, a festive procession through the village, the King's proclamation, and the King's ball form the traditional program. The festival is accompanied by live music in the festival tent, food stalls, and carousels for children.

Erntedankfest in Autumn

The Erntedankfest in autumn – usually in September – celebrates the end of the harvest year. An artfully woven harvest crown made of grain, flowers, and fruits is carried in the festive procession and displayed in the harvest thanksgiving service in the village church. The preparation of the harvest crown requires weeks of manual work and is a social event in itself.

Erntedankgottesdienst (Harvest Thanksgiving Service)

The harvest thanksgiving service on Sunday morning is the religious highlight. The church is decorated with fruits, grains, and vegetables. The local Protestant pastor holds a special harvest thanksgiving sermon. The Schützenverein and local clubs attend as a closed group.

Festabend (Festive Evening) in the Community Hall

Both at the Schützenfest and the Erntedankfest, the evening concludes in the Frankenfeld community hall. Live music, dancing, shared meals, and the crowning of the shooting king or harvest king mark the festive end.
