Shooting Tradition Returns

The Schützenfest Ekern in the Ekern district of Apen officially celebrates its comeback in 2026 after a hiatus. The local shooting club is the organizer, setting up the festival tent again together with the village community — a sign of the vitality of Ammerland club life.

2026 Edition — Friday and Saturday

The 2026 edition takes place on Friday, May 29, and Saturday, May 30. The kick-off on Friday evening is the tent disco with a DJ program, appealing to all age groups. On Saturday, the traditional shooting program takes center stage from the afternoon onwards — with the king's shooting, a darts tournament as a sporting highlight, and the big party for all generations in the evening.

What Schützenfest Means in Ammerland

Schützenfeste in Ammerland are much more than shooting competitions — they are village community festivals with a long tradition, club parades, king's banquets, and dance evenings. The title of king is held for a year and awarded anew at the next festival. In Ekern, tradition is contemporarily complemented by modern formats like a beer pong cup or a darts tournament.

Ekern — Small Village, Big Festival

Ekern belongs to the municipality of Apen and is located in western Ammerland. Despite its manageable size, the village organizes a festival every few years that attracts guests from far beyond the local borders. The return in 2026 is an event for the entire Apen community.
