Four-day Schützenfest at Pentecost in the Samtgemeinde Isenbüttel
Calberlah, with around 3,200 inhabitants, is a characteristic municipality in the Samtgemeinde Isenbüttel in the Gifhorn district, closely linked to its shooting club. The club's founding in 1882 makes it one of the oldest clubs in the village; for over 140 years, it has shaped the social life of the community. The annual Schützenfest at Pentecost is the highlight of the club's year and one of the most important dates in the community calendar.
Unlike many Schützenfeste in the region, Calberlah makes full use of the Pentecost holiday: celebrations run from Pentecost Friday to Pentecost Monday. This extension gives every part of the program ample space: shooting competitions, the parade, the proclamation of the king, dance evenings, and the family day all find their fixed place without haste. The regional cultural scene and local media reports speak of "four-day party luxury".
The competition for the royal title is at the center of the event. On the club's shooting ranges, the new majesties – the King, the Queen, the Youth King, and the Children's King – are determined through competition. The festive proclamation in the marquee, with the crowning, the presentation of the breast insignia, and a joint dance, is one of the emotional highlights.
The musical accompaniment is traditionally provided by the Musikzug Meine, one of the most renowned marching bands in the region. With marches, choral music, and festive pieces, they provide the sonic framework for parades and ceremonies.
The grand parade on Pentecost Sunday winds through Calberlah – shooters in uniform, marching bands, friendly clubs, the reigning monarch, and festively decorated floats characterize the scene. On the festival grounds, carousels, food stalls, and the marquee with live music create a classic Volksfest atmosphere.
The four-day structure allows ample space for every program item. Pentecost Friday kicks off the festival with the opening and a dance evening, Pentecost Saturday focuses on the king's shoot, Pentecost Sunday features the grand parade and proclamation, and Pentecost Monday is dedicated to the family day and the closing.
The participation of friendly clubs from the entire Gifhorn district and the musical accompaniment by the Musikzug Meine ensure a festive atmosphere and a lively sense of community.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the shooting club in the spring. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
