165 years of Bremervörde shooting tradition: a four-day folk festival in the Schützenpark with king's shooting, parade, and festival tent
The Bremervörde Shooting Society was founded in the 19th century and will look back on 165 Schützenfeste in 2026. Such continuity is remarkable, even in the traditional state of Lower Saxony. Generations of Bremervörde residents have supported club life, shaped the festival weekend, and passed on customs to their successors. The society combines sporting discipline at the shooting range with the active preservation of customs and community.
The Bremervörde Schützenfest spans four days, from Wednesday to Saturday. It includes bird shooting, king's shooting, a church service with a wreath-laying ceremony at the memorial, the grand parade through the town center, and daily events in the festival tent. Dance evenings with live music, morning pint gatherings (Frühschoppen), and a family day form the folk festival highlights.
The highlight of the festival is the proclamation and coronation of the new majesties. Whoever hits the decisive piece in the bird or king's shooting becomes the new king or queen of the shooting society. The royal court represents the society in the following year at events, parades, and receptions.
The parade through Bremervörde's town center is one of the most visible traditions of the Schützenfest. Hundreds of marksmen in uniform, marching bands, friendly clubs, equestrian units, and the royal court march through the festively decorated streets. The population lines the route, decorates houses and windows, and celebrates along.
During the four festival days, the Schützenpark Bremervörde becomes the social center of the town. The large festival tent with live music, DJ sets, catering, beer service, and a dance floor forms the focal point. A funfair, food stalls, and sweet stalls complete the folk festival atmosphere. Families, clubs, politicians, and businesses meet at the festival grounds.
From Wednesday evening to Saturday evening, the shooting society offers a continuous festival program. Tradition, competition, and folk festival merge. The festival tent becomes the social center of the town.
The highlight is the ceremonial proclamation and coronation of the new majesties in the festival tent. The royal court represents the shooting society for the next twelve months.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in spring 2026. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years.
